ClimaGen is a Horizon Europe Innovation Action that uses urban greening and renaturing to advance climate-resilient regeneration in vulnerable neighbourhoods.
Across nine European cities, communities, cultural actors, youth groups and local authorities work together to co-design nature-based solutions, restore green spaces and generate the evidence needed for a just transition towards net zero. Through an integrated approach that links participation, arts and culture, youth engagement, impact assessment and policy innovation, ClimaGen develops new pathways for sustainable and inclusive urban transformation.
ClimaGen’s Contribution to the EU Missions
ClimaGen focuses on urban greening and renaturing to promote climate-resilient regeneration in European cities, particularly in vulnerable neighbourhoods.
ClimaGen contributes jointly to the EU Mission 100 Climate Neutral and Smart Cities by 2030 and the EU Mission Adaptation to Climate Change, and uses methods of the New European Bauhaus.
Connecting Cities Across Europe
Together the nine cities collaborate through shared learning, replication, and cross-cutting innovation.
Five cities — Belgrade · Gdańsk · Tartu · Torino · Trondheim — act as Demonstrators, implementing full-scale renaturing measures, while four — Cluj-Napoca · Eindhoven · Gernika · Thessaloniki — act as Replication Cities, co-creating and preparing interventions for future deployment.
